About US

Schafer Karate is a traditional Shotokan Karate dojo that trains ages five and up. Karate instills confidence, respect, self-discipline, and mental focus. This potent physical and mental training helps develop physical strength and flexibility that the body will maintain throughout the rest of the student’s life. Our dojo is a safe, respectful, and supportive environment where students develop at their own pace under expert guidance from a Sensei who is a third degree black belt and former member of the Canadian National Karate Team.

The primary focus of Shotokan Karate is divided into three parts, Kihon (basics), Kata (patterns or forms), and Kumite (sparring). Techniques promoted in Kihon and Kata focus on stability, enable powerful movements and strengthen the legs and core. Kumite training will use these basics in a way that focuses on speed and efficiency compared to strength and power.
Please feel free to stop in for a free class to get a feel of the Dojo. The Schafer Karate Club focuses on self-discipline, respect, promoting physical fitness, a form of stress management and self-defence.
